Magazine Front Cover Analysis

Kerrang! Magazine the worlds top rock magazine, it will have inside the magazine the K! Awards 2005, free giant posters, rocks angriest band 8page special plus many more. I think this is good that they are featuring all these specials in one magazine because it will attract more people to buy the magazine and the regular customers to buy it. Also the free giant posters will attract the reader because every so often you get free giant posters. The target audience is mainly teenagers, the ages 15+. It is all kinds of ages because Kerrang! Magazine has old bands, new bands and some that have just come into the music industry. The target audiences are mostly interested in the main image, and the cover stories, also the posters are very attracting.
The main image is a direct mode of address because the main image is looking at the reader and their facial expressions are quite grim and indifferent it goes well with their story [death, drugs and revenge]. I think it wants a personal relationship with the reader, because it says they’re not okay, so I think they are trying to get an image where they need the audience to feel pity for them. My Chemical Romance is on the front cover because they are trying to give a message to the audience that they are not okay. The overall message that the main image is giving is that they are not okay.
There are also some other bands being represented, for example Rage Against The Machine is being represented, the magazine is telling us that they are the angriest band, so the magazine is representing them to be the angriest band and that there is an 8-page special explaining how they are the angriest band.
There is a buzz word on the front cover that really stands out which is free, it is telling us that something is free. This attracts the audience because it is free.
The title of the magazine is very attractive, it is bright and bold and it stands out. Although the background of the front cover is white and the title is white it still stands out because the outline of the text is black and bold which makes it stand out. The slogan is really good aswell [life is load] that also stands out because it overlaps the title and is red and stands out very well from the rest of the magazine. It tells you that the magazine is about rock genres and that life is load with Kerrang! Magazine. It helps attract the reader because it is bold and it explains the magazine really well because life is load with this magazine.
The colours that are used are white, black, and red and orange, I think they used these colours because they stand out. The orange stands out because it is bright and there is not a lot of orange in the magazine only when it is telling you something important. Also the red stands out because the main images story line is red and it is suppose to stand out, and it does it very well.
The strategies that the magazine uses to make the reader be attracted to the audience is bold and clear writing, the colours have to be bold and clear.
