The target audience in this magazine is 16+ because it is about rave and rave is probably one of the favourite genres in music for teenagers because it is fast upbeat music. The people in the images don’t say much about the target audience but there are middle aged people in them so maybe middle aged people read this, so the target audience is all ages because any one can rave and everyone likes it. The language in this magazine is more science like because it says things like ‘millions of tonnes of Co2 generated by setting…’ in this part of the article they are talking about the energy you have in a rave.

The colours that are used in this magazine are all colours, there’s yellow, red, green, blue and many more, I think this is a good idea that they used all different colours because it will appeal to the audience more than a magazine with three colours, this is because a magazine with all different colours stands out more, it is vibrant and bright. The yellow is used very well in the article because the yellow is used on a smiley face and this may represent that rave is good, it makes you happy. The white is also used well because the title is white and it really brings the page to life, it is also bright and vibrant and when you just look at the page quickly you will definitely see the white writing.

I think the background colour black is used well because it makes everything else stand out; everything is bright and stands out. The style of text that is used looks well but does not stand out because the writing is small as the other double page spread I analysed. The style of the title stands out because of the colour and it is big aswell so the audience really appeals to it.

The double page spread in this magazine is laid out well because there are pictures every where all over every page and the text is underneath the images so it makes the magazine look really well.

Double Page Spread Q Magazine

In this magazine I think that the audience will be middle aged because the band in the picture are middle aged and they look quite boring, so teenagers wont be interested. They are also a rock band so it will attract readers who listen to rock and metal so this might attract teenagers who like that music because they want to know what they sound like. The language that the article is using is English this is because it is an English magazine. The colours that are used are white, red and grey; I think this makes the magazine look quite serious and dull. These colours will not attract the readers as well as other double page spreads; this is a disadvantage to the magazine. The red is used for the writing to stand out because it’s the brightest and boldest colour of the three; I think this works because I more focus on the red writing.

The white writing is used for explaining things like the picture, as you can see on the page it is underneath the writing it does stand out because the pictures background is not white. The grey writing is used for the text this does not stand out because there is loads of grey writing and it is small so it does not appeal to the audience well. The writing style that is used is small but bold. The title is just bold because it is the main text on the page and I think the designers of the magazine did this well, as for the other text I think they should of made it clearer by making it bold and a bit bigger so that the text in red really stands out.

The double page spread is laid out very neatly, I think this because the image is taking the whole of one page and on the other page it is telling the audience who they are and what they are doing. I think this is a good idea because the audience will concentrate on the image first and then move on to the text and this is what I think the designers of the magazine wanted. I think the magazine is getting wants a personal relationship with the audience because the people in the image are looking straight forward towards the reader, I think the tone they are using is trying to get the reader to be more a fan than a close friend because in the article they are talking about how the band is going on tour and they want their fans to go, but I also think they want their fans to be their close friends because they also talk about their hometown being bad for example it says ‘wife beaters’.

Question 1: Age
Mostly the people that took the questionnaire are 16 to 18 so the audience will be focused on teenagers, and they are young and hip so their will also be free gifts and posters.

Question 5: what would you like to see in the magazine?
People said that they would like to see music and celebrities in the magazine so that is what I am going to do. I am going to have music artists so the audience would be happy because it has both of what they want. They also said they would like to see unsigned bands and celebrity news so Im going to have an unsigned band and have an interview with them.

Question 9: what attracts you to the front cover?
The audience said they would like to see a hot music artist on the front of the magazine either boy or girl so that is what they did, also some people said what is going to be in the magazine and bright colours and I think I have done bright colours on mine including green, yellow and blue, and I have got most of the stories that is going to be inside on the cover.

Question 10: who is your favourite artist?
The audience varied loads of artists and I didn’t know which one to choose so I chose my own artist. I asked this question because I needed to interview someone and that I chose by myself aswell, but I chose some of the artists they chose and stuck them on the posters.

Preliminary Task

Preliminary task: We had to make a practice school magazine to show our skills, we had to show our fonts, styles and our photo shopped images.
On my front page I used loads of colours and fonts because it is a school magazine and it attracts the reader because teenagers like bright colours. I think the main image is really good aswell because it is bright and bold and it very appropriate with what she is wearing. I think I do need to improve on the font because it does not go with the colours or the images because it is bold, it is not colourful. It is bold and big and my magazine is not bold because it is a small magazine with not that many pages in it.

What I like the best about my magazine is the colours because it is bright and colourful, and it makes the writing and the images stand out. The preliminary task is a really good idea because it really helped me with my final magazine and I think it taught me how to use better fonts, styles, colours and the layout.
I think the title is bold but the colour and the font is not that good, this is why the practice is a good idea because you can practice on different types and fonts and colours and if they look bad you can improve them on your final magazine to make it look successful and look like a real magazine.

I think my contents page is better than my front cover because it looks like a real magazine contents page, I think this helped me really well on my final magazine contents page because contents pages are usually so boring but this contents page looks bright and colourful and will attract the reader, that is what I did with my final magazine contents page, I made it stand out so that it will attract the reader. I think I need to improve on the text, it is too small and the purple does not stand out that much whereas my final magazine contents page is bigger and brighter and the colours of the text makes it stand out even more than it already does.

The thing I like best about my contents page is the pictures, I like the images because they are big and they make the contents page look more appealing, this really helped me with my final magazine contents page images because I made them big and I put the writing on it so the writing stands out. I also like them because the images I used are of people that I no and they look very professional and it makes the images look good. One of my images is black and white and this really works well with my magazine because my background is black, and the writing is colourful and where there is writing on top of the image in yellow it makes the image really stand out.

The Evolution Of Britney Spears

The image of Britney spears has been framed on a sheet of bed sheets to show that she is changing into a woman, but this image may represent that she is a sex goddess. The image is also cropped so that you only see part of the bed and nearly the whole of her body. The shot that has been used is a long shot to show all of her body, and to show what she is doing. I think this magazine is a music magazine because there are music artists on the front cover and their stories and music life.

Britney’s costume is very revealing because she is in her bra and short shorts which will attract young teens and maybe men to buy this magazine because she is so revealing. The props that have been used is a telletubby to show that she is growing up she’s turning into a woman, and the telletubby represents her being a child. Also there is a telephone in her other hand maybe that will represent that she is a woman and she can do what ever she wants, she could be on the phone to a boy or a boyfriend, she is telling the audience she is a woman she’s ready for the world.

The setting she is in is probably a bedroom because she is lying on bed sheets, pink bed sheets to represent that she is young, sexy and stylish. The colours that are used are pink, white and purple. I think they used purple for the title because it stands out from the rest of the colours and if your not looking at Britney you will see the title, the pink really stands out from the text because it is a bright vibrant colour.


The image of Britney spears has been cropped so she fits in the magazine and does not cover the whole of the page; she is standing up with just her underwear on so she is framed in a square sort of shape so she and her underwear stand out from the rest of the front cover. The shot used on her is a mid-shot so you can see what is going on in the image and to see what she is doing.

Her costume that she is wearing is also very revealing because she is only wearing her underwear with no top, I think she is wearing a men’s shirt in her hand to show that she ready for action, she also looks like a sex goddess in this image because she is showing a lot of her body and her facial expression is very serious but childish aswell to tell men that she’s ready. The audience might say that the image is too revealing and may complain because she is so exposed on a music magazine. The setting that is used I think is a passage way so she can squeeze her way through and still look sexy, I think they used this setting because she is very revealing and with this setting you cannot see much.

The lighting that is used is a high angle light so you can see her face clearly and the rest of the body, the writing is darker than the image so I think they used this light angle to make Britney stand out from the rest of the front cover. The colours that are used are white, blue, black and red, I think they used white for the background and her underwear to make her tanned skin stand out from the rest, the title is not that bold in this one because they used the same colours as some of the sell lines and is not that good, the black writing stands out because they are the main stories [main sell lines] for example ‘BRITNEY’ stands out better than the title because the magazine is about her.


I think this image has been chosen in this issue because the sell line is ‘BRITNEY SPEARS inside an American tragedy’ I think they did a close up of her to show her facial expression, to show that she is upset and very sad. The black and white effect is very affective because it makes the audience feel what she is feeling; we understand what she is trying to do. She is connecting to the audience. The image has been cropped so that you just see her face; it is a close up shot of her to see her facial expression. The relationship she wants with the audience is a personal relationship, she wants the audience to know that she is in a tragedy and she wants the audience to feel for her, to feel pity towards her.

Analysis Contents Page

The contents page has used images of either new bands or unsigned bands; they have put the images in squares maybe so that the images stand out. They are very neatly placed and organised, they have been arranged line by line so you know what is going on. The target audience is 15+ this is because they have all new bands in the magazine, there are also young, hot females and males in the images so that will attract the audience because they will want to read about them and see what they do, are they in a band or are they going on tour. The big image on the left top corner is the main image on this page because it is bigger than the rest of the images, so maybe the magazine wants the audience to read that story rather than the rest.

The colours that are used are yellow, white and red; these colours make the contents page stand out, these colours also attract the reader because yellow is a bright colour and the audience will look at the yellow first and see what is written there. The black background on the yellow writing makes the yellow stand out more so the audience will definitely be attracted to this piece of writing. I think the pictures stand out more so I think this is a disadvantage because no one would really look at the writing on it. I think the pictures attract the audience more because they are big, bold and neatly done. The colours in the contents page are not the same as the front cover, there are two colours the same white and red but the front cover stands out more because the writing is bigger. The font in this contents page is quite bold and big so it does stand out but not that much, the font will not attract the audience the colour will so the colours are an advantage in this contents page.

The information is organised not that well because the writing is not that bold so no one will really read it they will look at the images, the writing written in yellow stands out but the rest of the writing does not. It tells us that the magazine focuses more on the images than the text; on the front cover of the magazine the title is clear and bold.
There are promotional features on the contents page and that is that you can have Kerrang! Magazine delivered right at your door for £6.00 a month. I think this is a good idea because Kerrang! Directors will get more profit for the magazine if the audience buy this, they will get more money if they will buy the magazine regularly. The magazine logo is not on the contents page I think this is a disadvantage for the magazine because having the logo on the contents page is promotional. Overall I think the magazine contents page is good and well organised they just need to make the writing stand out more and change the colours.

Contents Page Analysis

The magazine does use images; the images used in the magazine are very neat and organized, they are in order of the magazine which means it is in range with the text. The images have been constructed in a line which I think looks very good because they are all lopsided so it makes the contents page look more interesting. I assume from the contents page that it is going to be for teenagers because of who is in the images, there are young, hot females and males in the images so that will attract the audience.
The colours that are used are all different colours, it is multicoloured [blue, yellow, white, red, orange, black, grey] which attracts the audience more because teenagers like bright colours and I think this magazine done it well, the font styles also draw in the audience because it is very bold and bright, and some of the fonts are in different colours so they stand out from the background. Also some of the text is slanted so that also stands out from the rest of the contents page and it makes the audience want to buy the magazine when they look at the contents page, and if it looks the same as the front cover than they will definitely buy it. The information is organized so that the text is in line with the images; they are neatly organized so that the image is next to the text so we know what image they are talking about for example the main image the text is underneath to explain why he is going to be in the magazine, it is saying what he says so maybe he is going to be in an interview.
There are promotional features in the contents page; there is a section where you can get 20p issues for 2months, I think this is a good idea because it is promoting the magazine very well, and it will get the reader to buy this and to try this promotional feature.
The magazine logo is on the page, it is in the top left hand corner. It is not very dominant which I think is an issue because the logo has to be big, I understand that it is the contents page and it is not that important on this page but it still needs to be dominant so the reader is attracted to not only the front cover but the contents page so they can see what is going to be in the magazine.
